Abstract :
Characteristics of processes in the area of scientific computing demand special modeling and execution capabilities of workflow models and workflow management systems respectively. This concerns especially the modeling of a huge number of workflows in a compact manner and the possibility to change the instances of a workflow during execution. Based on the experiences gathered while modeling the processes in the area of retail research of the largest European market research company, we introduce three new concepts to reach the flexibility needed for workflow management in scientific computing: descriptive workflows, dynamic change, and ad hoc modeling
