Abstract
A flexible active E/O local bus module using multi-mode optical transmission performs an interconnection of flexible electronic-optical circuit board in board-to-board level. The proposed E/O module is compatible with traditional electrical interface in printed circuit board(PCB) and can be directly used in high speed module interconnection. A 17 cm long prototyping of the proposed E/O local bus module is developed here to demonstrate the feasibility of short reach optical interconnection in board level applications by using total-internal-reflect (TIR) mirror. Some reliability tests of the waveguides are also included here. By using the precise positioning stages, we can measure the propagation loss of the optical waveguide and assemble the optical waveguide and VCSEL/PD by active alignment. Using different processes to fabricate optical waveguides also pass 10 Gbps eye diagram test and some reliability tests
