Abstract :
In order to reveal the mechanism of antler development and elucidate the function of antlerogenic periosteum in the process, in this experiment we selected four one year old male sika deers. A full one side antlerogenic periosteum was removed to the frontal bone by surgery operation. The results showed that there have no antler grows in the place where the periosteum was removed, but the antler grows well in the frontal bone where the periosteum was received. The results in this experiment indicated that antlerogenic periosteum is the histological bases for antler formation. We think it will be help for increasing the antler production by ectopic antler theory.
