Abstract :
We propose a hybrid indoor access network (HIAN) based on a hierarchically modulated constant envelope orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (CE-OFDM) coding. The HIAN seamlessly integrates indoor visible light communication (VLC) with wavelength-division multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON), thus it is able to support both wireless and wired accesses for indoor users. By modulating an M-ary pulse amplitude modulation (MPAM) signal to the envelope of a CE-OFDM signal, OFDM based fiber access and MPAM based variable bit rate VLC access can be spectral-efficiently converged.
