Abstract :
In this paper a soft computing approach to the computer aided manufacturing protocol (CAPP) is proposed. Earlier experiences of the authors revealed important features of decisive CAPP. These experiences suggest use of the integrated paradigm of soft computing as a key tool for solving the classical problems of CAPP. First, the problems emerging in present day CAPP methodologies are explained. Following this, the promises of soft computing using knowledge based techniques for solving these problems are analyzed. Then the decision making process in CAPP is investigated and a set of separated decisions is defined. Finally, a new approach to CAPP based on soft computing and entropy based inference is proposed
