Abstract
Short- and medium-haul links in metro, access and inter-data centre networks require low cost direct-detection WDM transceivers offering dispersion tolerance, energy efficiency and high information spectral density. In this paper, we describe recent work aiming to increase the reach and spectral efficiency of such systems, using the single-sideband Nyquist subcarrier modulation (N-SCM) signal format.
