Abstract
A decision support system for the conceptual design of injection mould is described. The system employs a genetic algorithm (GA) to search for variable design options, and it incorporates a high level understanding about structural design and its constraints. The design process is currently focused on getting structure scheme of injection mould, which including type of cooling system, guiding framework, ejector style, core- pulling device, die carrier, layout of cavity, and so on. The property feature parameter of injection mould function is chosen as input parameters. The system uses GA more than a search engine rather than as an optimization tool. In addition, for improving the GA´s searching performance, technology of cased based reasoning (CBR) is used to create initial population in the system.
