Abstract
Construction of Central Japan International Airport started in August 2000 in Ise Bay off the coast of the city of Tokoname in Aichi prefecture. Dredged soil was utilized for the reclamation because of difficulties in obtaining good-quality land soil and dredged soil disposal sites as a result of increased environmental awareness. To this end, we have selected the pneumatic flow mixing method, which is a solidification method suitable for developing the ground to required strength at a large scale at relatively low cost. The land development project of Central Japan International Airport is the first large-scale application of the mixing method. This method is expected to be applied effectively to future land development projects in coastal areas.
