Abstract :
A bridging architecture, called a cut-through bridge, which can be employed to interconnect existing CSMA/CD (carrier-sense multiple-access/collision detection) local-area networks (LANs), is proposed. A design of this bridge is provided and its performance examined via a detailed simulation model. The performance enhancement achievable by the cut-through bridge over a normal bridge is then demonstrated. Since the cut-through bridge can be readily employed to replace passive repeaters while achieving superior performance, it has promise for immediate application in existing CSMA/CD LANs
