EMBC 2013: Meeting in the Land of the Rising Stars [EMBC 2013: Osaka, Japan]

The 2013 IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Conference (EMBC), held in Osaka, Japan, brought EMBS members together under the theme "Inspiring Sustainable Health Care Through Technology." Dr. Kenji Sunagawa, professor in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Kyushu University and chair of EMBC 2013, noted that the theme was chosen to emphasize the critical role that biomedical engineering has in exploring new medical technology in developed countries while at the same time ensuring its access in the developing ones. This year\´s conference provided attendees with the opportunity to network extensively with physicians, and many special sessions at the conference pertained to clinical science.
