Abstract :
In order to promote wider spread of wind farm, the technology of reducing fluctuations in wind power output is indispensable. By introducing the storage batteries in the wind power system, the generated power is smoothed, thereby reducing undue influence on the power system. By combining storage batteries with unpredictable wind-sourced generation, it becomes possible to prepare plans. If the output fluctuation from the wind farm can be held to within this range, the utility can absorb any fluctuation by using its own generating capacity. Capacity of wind generators and the scale of wind farm are becoming larger and larger. So the intermittence and fluctuation of wind will produce high disturbance on the stabilization of the power system. However, if a large battery is installed in the power system, the capital cost for wind power system will increase. This paper presents a different solution to short-term wind-power variability, using advanced power electronic devices combined with energy-storage systems. Power Systems Computer Aided Design (PSCAD) was aided to experimental data to verify the performance of the battery bank under different system conditions and algorithms. Power limiters were also contrasted and evaluated for frequency deviations and attenuated power fluctuations.
