Abstract :
This paper proposes a method of constructing charging infrastructures in highway rest areas for the propagation and efficient operation of electric vehicles (EV). The supply of EVs was predicted with LPG vehicles as the propagation model. To determine the reasonable capacities, locations, and sizes of the charging stations, the technical trends and commercialization level of charging systems were analyzed. The annual supply of highway charging systems must be able to fulfill the daily maximum charging capacity throughout the year. The daily maximum charging demand was calculated with the highway daily average running distance, highway maximum traffic volume, and EV fuel efficiency. The supply of fast charging systems in each section was formulated with the daily maximum charging demand, the EV mainline traffic volume, fast charging system capacity (40 kW), and the utilization rate of charging facilities in rest areas. This paper presents the supply of fast charging systems in each section of highways from 2015 to 2034 through various variables and formulas and proposes a method of constructing more rational charging infrastructure in the future.
