Abstract :
A new access control scheme, referred to as framed pipeline polling is proposed for providing wide mixed-media services in a passive optical network (PON). The framed pipeline polling method realizes dynamic channel assignment capability and high channel utilization. An accommodation technique for both constant bit rate (CBR) and variable bit rate (VBR) services and/or for both symmetric and asymmetric services based on the proposed pipeline polling is discussed. The PON system with this proposed method can effectively provide wide mixed-media services
