Abstract
International developments in phasor applications have demonstrated the potential of using phasor measurements to enhance network visibility. Most of these operational experiences are primarily for a large transmission grid or for a network connected to one. The motivation of this panel paper is to share New Zealand´s experience and thus, provide a contrasting insight of Phasor development infrastructure implemented in small island power grid. Since 2007, 10 Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) have been installed in New Zealand, and presently, 3 new PMUs are being added each year. Applications like model validation, detection of ageing equipments and monitoring electromechanical oscillations have been successfully implemented.
