Abstract :
In this paper, application of a static transfer switch (STS) in an industrial plant containing many induction motors is treated. The operating principle of the STS is explained and maximum detection and transfer times are shown for different circuit conditions. Problems that may arise in plants with high amount of induction motor load are illustrated by means of ATP-EMTP simulation. Results demonstrate the improvements achieved with the installation of a STS.
