Abstract :
The File Transfer Sub-group of the Task Force was established to tackle the interoperability issues relating to asset transfers. That is, the transfer of audio, video and data between devices. This involves not only the physical connections between devices but also the protocols employed to control the flow of information. The growing use of computer-based technology in post-production has created an interest in the use of networks in programme production, initially in the area of audio editing but now also for video. Video compression techniques allowed useful amounts of material to be stored on computer disks and networking gives a number of people access to the same material. Interconnections via wide-area networks permit distributed production to take place, with specialized operations taking place where the necessary skills are located
