Abstract :
The variation of coefficient values in state variable description (SVD) block filters as a function of block length is shown to depend strongly on the basis filter structure and block length. An expression for output noise variance is derived using a statistical model of coefficient quantization, which shows a direct connection to coefficient range. Results clearly demonstrate that, contrary to widely held assumptions, coefficient quantization noise in block filters may be worse than their basis filter. The comparison of analytical results with simulations for a sample filter shows good agreement
