Abstract
Recently, there has been much debate on the benefits of wavelength interchange or conversion in wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) optical networks. Here, we compare the performance of WDM shared protection rings (WDM SPRING) and their interconnection with and without λ-interchange (using the Max Reuse algorithm for λ-assignment). We consider a dynamic traffic scenario with each node generating requests with exponentially distributed average inter arrival time and holding time
