Abstract :
Why do so many people think that faster means poorer quality? Probably because we have all experienced “The faster I go, the behinder I get.” It is possible to develop better software faster and less expensively! Yes, software can be better or developed faster or both. Detailed technical reviews (DTRs) enable teams to discover and remove defects early so they deliver better software faster. The paper explains why DTRs enable developing better software faster and how to perform DTRs. It provides the short answers to the who, what, when, where, why, and how of DTRs. M. Fagan (1976) invented inspections for software products, using ideas from hardware engineering. DTRs have also been used on hardware products as well as on operational procedures
