Abstract :
This paper proposes a fast-response torque control strategy for flywheels designed to fulfil peak power requirements under DC bus voltage constraint. Because of limited DC bus voltage, power control systems with normal current regulation loops will experience very sluggish response because of the saturation of the current regulators. This kind of phenomena has serious impact on the application of the flywheels. Based on time optimal control theory, the proposed fast current control strategy solves this problem. Actually, it not only eliminates the current regulator saturation phenomena, it also represents the fastest possible large current response under DC bus voltage constraint.
