Abstract :
In this paper, I briefly summarize the physical basis of guided- (leaky-) mode resonance effect and present its promising applicability in photonic devices and systems. A summary of potential applications is presented followed by three representative examples. These elements are able to exhibit novel spectral responses in amplitude and phase with potential applications in many areas of optics and photonics.
