Abstract
Whilst loading a 5kW prototype multistage axial-flux permanent magnet synchronous machine, an unbalanced load sharing characteristic between stages was revealed. This results in the dominating stage undergoing a higher temperature rise. Unequal stator currents and power factors result in a lower overall machine efficiency. The cause of this problem is investigated and future design considerations are recommended.
