Abstract :
In order to satisfy the requirements of an integrated manufacturing engineering laboratory, a network of reduced instruction set computer (RISC) workstations and PCs is established. Apart from the general and advanced CAD/CAM applications, a wide variety of application software in manufacturing technology and real-time communication is supported. The installation of the network involves the use of UNIX TCP/IP on the high-end workstations and DOS Ver.5 with OS/2 LAN server and NetBIOS services. The problems encountered are discussed, in particular, the DOS network, set-up techniques, and management issues
