Abstract
The challenges confronted and overcome in the development and production of the mobile payphone system are reported. The main objective was to create a phone system that would present a Mobile Payphone Terminal (MPT) to the user that was easy to use, operationally sophisticated, flexible, highly reliable, compact and of low cost. To achieve this, several diverse existing technologies were incorporated. The systems approach utilized allows the synergy of the complementary remote payphone terminals and central management system to be achieved. This solution has permitted the development of an extremely flexible remote monitoring facility
