Abstract :
For optical fiber transmission systems, the evaluation of the average error probability can be extremely difficult using analytically based methods because of the complex nature of the stochastic processes involved. An importance sampling method is presented for simulating optical fiber communications systems which employ avalanche photodetectors. The proposed method is a computationally efficient simulation-based tool for use in computer-aided-designed, analysis, and modeling of digital lightwave communication systems
