Abstract :
Little effort has been expended on improving the torque capability of various types of synchronous reluctance machines for potential use in motor drives. Based on preliminary work, it appears that substantial improvements can be made in the design of such motor drives, resulting in performance characteristics which could match or exceed that of the induction of variable reluctance machines. Six innovative variable-speed reluctance machine drive configurations which show considerable promise are set forth to demonstrate the possibilities
