Abstract :
Power quality is important for electrical engineers. New technology operation depends directly on the quality of input voltage. One of the important disturbances in power quality is voltage fluctuation. Low level frequency modulation of the supply voltage of less than 5% can cause annoying flicker in lamps and invoke public complaints when its frequency lies in the range of 6-25 Hz. There is therefore a need to measure and control this phenomenon. Most power system software suffers from the lack of a module to perform flicker assessment. A complete flickermeter, based on IEC 868, is simulated using a C++ program. The simulation results are compared with an actual flickermeter as well as the IEC standard.
