Abstract :
It is expected that the main service that will exist on 3G mobile systems, besides voice, will be World Wide Web (WWW) based services. 3G systems (e.g. UMTS) will be based on W-CDMA. We present an approximate analysis of the Erlang capacity of the reverse link of such a system. We compare our analysis with a simulation. Our results show that the Gaussian approximation is quite accurate at high traffic intensities but underestimates the outage probability at low traffic intensities. Using this approximation, it was found that Web page traffic can have a significant impact on the voice Erlang capacity. It was also found that the higher the bit rate of the Web traffic, the lower was the Web traffic Erlang capacity, for the same voice traffic and outage probability
