Abstract :
In this paper a new hybrid network solution relying on synergy between a IEEE 802.16-based networks (commonly known as a WiMAX networks) and digital video broadcasting-return channel satellite (DVB-RCS) networks is presented. The novelty of the architecture proposed is that of employing DVB-RCS domains as a backhaul for content delivery to IEEE 802.16 domains. It goes on to analyse key implementation issues concerning IEEE 802.16/DVB-RCS hybrid platforms, providing innovative and efficient solutions to problems like functional network entities definition and their connectivity, protocol stack specifications, QoS control and mobility management over heterogeneous routes
