Abstract
The author describes the technological advances in the area of diagnostics, control, and automation for the enhancement of performance and safety of nuclear plants. This survey is carried out in the framework of a human cognitive model of control and diagnostics. Particular attention is given to signal validation for a safety parameter display system; a fault-tolerant digital feedwater control system; simulator qualification methodology and a reactor emergency action level monitor expert system.<>
