  • Abstract
The Internet is developing with high speed all over the world and gradually becoming the main approach for people to get information. However the current service cannot meet increasing needs for information. To address the problem, this paper presents MMCAST-a new digital multimedia information broadcast system based on CATV. Digital multimedia information is sent to users´ computers through broadband downstream CATV channels, while users´ requests are transmitted back through upstream PSTN. To increase the speed of the encoding and decoding process and guarantee the reliability of data transmission, erasure resilient code (ERC) and priority encoding transmission (PET) are adopted in MMCAST. The system uses QPSK as the modulation method. MMCAST has been applied to some CATV stations and provides people with a whole new approach to get information.
