Abstract
The new requirements of packet-based metropolitan area networks (MAN) have resulted in the emergence of new data transport technology, resilient packet ring (RPR). The issue of survivability is one of the key technologies in RPR. The survivability of a RPR self-healing ring network under link failure is analyzed to obtain the relations among traffic distribution, survivability and intensity of disaster. In this paper, the survivability of three typical traffic distributions is calculated to make a comparison between wrapping and integrated self-healing (ISH). Results show that compared with wrapping, the survivability of RPR could be optimized under ISH.
