Abstract
Particulate matters and some gaseous pollutants were always evaluated as key parameters with significant impact on ambient air quality. Most previous researches focused on the comparison between one parameter and the others based on Fuzzy Method or Principal Component Analysis. Recently, Grey system is often used to eliminate the bias induced by subjective evaluation in Fuzzy method. A new method for establishing the weight vector of evaluation indices is applied in this study to evaluate comprehensive ambient air quality of typical traffic areas. Three of nine sites in crowded downtown areas in Shanghai were chosen as evaluated samples. The results show that the site in bus station had the worst ambient air quality among the tested sites. It can also be concluded that the grey relational model has advantages in evaluating ambient air quality in traffic areas.
