Title :
A power electronics view on rail transportation applications
Author_Institution :
Siemens AG, Nuremberg, Germany
Abstract :
Power electronics has been a major technology driver in traction applications. Today we find an established and well proven converter solution for the whole power- and voltage range needed in traction. Today´s challenges therefore lie mainly in two aspects, how to provide a platform with minimum engineering effort for new vehicles and how to incorporate new technologies like permanent magnet machines, energy storage devices and new semiconductors.
