Abstract
The marine sector is a large part of the global transportation system. There is an increasing need for reducing emission to air and more energy efficient operation for the whole industry. This will have strong influence on the energy system on-board. All aspects from ship design, propulsion, machinery, power distribution and service have to be considered. In section II On-board distribution system is discussed. AC system is the common solution today, but DC distribution can give additional degrees of freedom for operation of the Engine & Generator Set. In section III Hybrid Power Generation System is presented. The structure chosen is dependent on the operation profile for the ship. In this section a hybrid solution with direct mounted shaft motor/generator is presented. Additional energy sources as fuel cells are introduced. In section IV Power management are discussed, while the requirement for Power electronics and machines are briefly discussed in section V.
