Abstract :
A specialized silicon compiler, NICE (networking interfacing compiler experiment), which implements the high speed processing for a given network interfacing protocol is introduced. NICE consists of several predesigned, parameterized, and roughly characterized building blocks together with a procedure for connecting them to implement the functions of a given protocol while minimizing area. The chips produced by NICE can reach over 1 Gb/s with 2-μm CMOS technology by using primitive blocks with high degrees of parallelism
