Abstract :
An optimized hybrid PWM (pulse-width modulation) technique has been developed for real-time implementation, using a 16-bit single-chip microcontroller (INTEL 8097). The method has been developed to generate, online and in real time, optimized PWM switching angles using the 16-bit microcontroller for AC drive applications. The system has a built-in facility for online monitoring and protection. The microcontroller board with instrumentation and driving circuitry is interfaced with a high-power GTO (gate turnoff) stack configured as an inverter with provision of short-circuit and driver circuit malfunction protection. The preliminary results and the design concepts are presented
