Abstract
The electromagnetic properties of soft magnetic composites (SMCs) are studied based on a finite element model. In this approach, SMCs are modeled as an infinite array of hexagonal cylinders in two dimensions. Each cylinder is assumed to be saturable pure iron coated with a thin layer of binder or insulation. The array is excited by a current sheet or imposed fluxes to generate static average saturation characteristics (B-H or μ-B curves). The effects of insulation thickness, particle size, composite; contact; porosity; fill base metal, contacts and porosity are evaluated by varying the parameters and geometric details of the model. In addition, preliminary studies of eddy current behavior were undertaken. They show that conductivity in SMC is not of typical nature.
