Abstract :
During the past few years there has been a considerable amount of activity related to improving or establishing new NEMA dimensional standards for round magnet wire products. The history of NEMA magnet wire dimensional standards and past efforts to harmonize NEMA dimensional standards with IEC winding wire dimensional standards are discussed. Then the focus of the discussion is turned to those dimensional changes or new dimensional specifications that have been or are in the process of being introduced into NEMA MW 1000 over the last two years. Specific changes discussed include: modifications to NEMA Heavy build dimensions in the large round size range from 4-13 AWG, modifications to Triple build dimensions in the 30 AWG and finer size range and the establishment of a new Quad build specification for products other than MW 16 Polyimide
