Abstract :
Mobile telecommunications has a real-time database system, named home location register (HLR). The HLR system manages location information of subscribers for mobile telecommunications in a distributed manner. Whenever a mobile subscriber crosses over location areas, update transactions in HLR systems take a unilateral commit action to support fast processing. However, the unilateral commitment can cause inconsistency problems between transactions. To resolve the problems, the concept of compensation transaction is used widely. So far, the compensation transactions have not taken timing constraints into account and take a substantially longer time to recover, thereby, being unacceptable in a real-time environment. Thus, to incorporate compensation transactions in a real-time environment, the timeliness of the compensation results should be fully considered. In this paper, we design an optimized compensation transaction (OCT) that implies an important property of location information. Then, the validity of the proposed compensation transaction is illustrated by describing the actual case of running a mobile telecommunications system in a real-time environment
