Abstract
In this paper, we propose a number of QoS differentiation mechanisms for heterogeneous wireless networks and the next-generation Internet. We propose distributed differential scheduling and prioritized ki-ary countdown for differentiated channel access in mobile ad hoc networks and multihop wireless LANs. We also propose a differentiated backoff control scheme for distributed flow control and DiffServ supports in ad hoc networks. The proposed mechanisms have considerably stronger differentiation capability as compared to IEEE 802.11e.
