Abstract :
In this paper, a novel triple band antenna is proposed for Universal Serial Bus (USB) dongle applications. The proposed antenna is made by designing a monopole type antenna and adding an L-shaped strip on ground plane. The monopole antenna excites three resonant bands at 2.4, 4.2, and 5.8 GHz. By adding the L-shaped strip, the impedance matching of the 2.4 GHz band is improved and the middle band at 4.2 GHz and higher band at 5.8 GHz are shifted to 3.5 and 5.2 GHz, respectively. The three operating bands cover WLAN (2.4-2.5 GHz and 5.15-5.875 GHz), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX (3.4-3.6 GHz) applications. The important features of this design are having compact dimensions of 12×45×1.6 mm3 and easily controlling its resonances by adjusting the parameters of the monopole and the L-shaped strip.
