Abstract :
The paper describes a simple method, based upon the Fourier transformation of the frequency, active and reactive power deviation time functions which are modeled and measured in field tests, to determine the efficiency of excitation systems and power system stabilizers (PSS). Employing this "Fourier transform method" for the space variables mentioned above, numerical values are given to evaluate the damping effect of the exciter system and PSS, without any switching operations on the power system. The results show the source and the magnitude of the oscillations for the unit, power plant and power system investigated.
