Abstract :
As the use of information technology spreads out in a variety of daily life, there is strong need for personal information protection using smart cards. In this paper, we propose a novel multimodal security enhancement scheme for Java cards. Here we emphasize two aspects. One is using multiple PINs, namely Stored PIN, Install PIN, and Update PIN, which allows providing different security-level services to diverse applets and/or users that have different security requirements. The other is applying cryptographic algorithms to make a PIN setting and verification activity more trustworthy. Real implementation based study has shown that our proposal can improve multiformity, key manageability, and confidentiality with lightweight space and time overheads.
