Abstract :
Consumer RAID without a power-fail-safe component suffers from the problem of time-consuming, scan-based, resynchronization after a sudden power-off. It is very inconvenient for consumers to wait for that the very long resynchronization completes as a penalty for a careless power-off. This paper presents a fast resynchronization with negligible overhead for consumer RAID. The proposed scheme that was implemented as a software RAID driver in Linux shortens 200 minutes of the resynchronization process to 5 seconds with 2% of overhead in an experiment.
