Abstract :
A program for simulating event generation in a positron emission tomography (PET) scanner is reported. The Monte-Carlo program was used to study the effects of detector size and filtering function on spatial resolution and noise artifacts in reconstructed images. It is concluded that the spatial resolution is improved as the detector size is decreased and that the more high-frequency components the filter passes, the better the resolution. However, high-frequency noise artifacts are amplified as well
