Abstract
This paper proposes a method for online monitoring the primary frequency regulation performance of the control area in wide area measurement system (WAMS) based on the dynamic measurement data collected by synchronous phasor measurement unit (PMU). First, it discovers the variation through watching over the power grid frequency and the tie-lines power between control areas in real time. It measures the frequency static characteristic coefficients and calculates the expected invoking capacity of the primary frequency regulation of the control areas, compares with the actual invoking capacity through the analysis on the system frequency and the tie-lines exchange power data, combining with the power vacancy. It estimates the primary frequency regulation performance by the response index of the control area.
