Abstract
In view of the prevailing popularity of the World Wide Web, this research aims to construct a Game-Based Learning system for junior high school students by using game and network engines from freeware, combined with materials developed by academic experts, and with characters and scenes designed by art staff. To enhance learners´ motivation and the effectiveness of learning, we implement factors that are especially appealing to young students to induce them into participating in the online games. The study adopts a quasi-experimental method by dividing two seventh-grade classes into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group gets online after school to learn by using the system whereas the learning material is released to the control group only in paper format. In a questionnaire filled out by the experimental group, we find that the students are more interested in online Game-Based Learning than in traditional ways.
