Abstract :
The design and implementation of a 24 GHz subharmonic mixer-based quadrature direct-conversion receiver is presented. The receiver includes an RF section with an LNA, an improved active balun, multi-phase LO based passive subharmonic mixers, and an LO section containing an octet phase generator obtained from an on-chip integrated quadrature VCO. Fabricated in a 0.13 mum CMOS process, the RF and IF sections consume 48 mA and the LO section consumes 40 mA, using a 1.6 V supply. The measured conversion gain of the receiver was 12.5 dB with a DSB noise figure of 7.4 dB.
