Abstract :
To overcome the limitations for traditional manual meter-reading and poor suitability of modern meter-reading system regarding electric energy metering, a portable automatic ammeter reading system is put forward based on digit recognition algorithm. With the numerical recognition of images from dial plate as its core, this system accomplish the recognition of user code and electricity numbers before relative operations, such as storage, charging, etc. Served as the basic role, a combination of algorithms, including morphology, grayscale conversion, edge detection, Hough transformation, projection, etc., are used in preprocessing after which the numeral recognition system utilize closed hole, semi-closed hole as the structural features for extraction and recognition. After the actual test, the system is proved to have strong accuracy and robustness.
